Menopause

What Is Menopause?

Menopause is a natural process in which a woman’s menstrual cycle permanently ends, marking the completion of the reproductive phase. It typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. Menstrual bleeding stops as the ovaries cease producing estrogen and progesterone hormones.

Symptoms of Menopause

  • Irregular periods: Menstrual cycles may change before menopause.
  • Hot flashes and sweating: Night sweats are especially common.
  • Sleep disturbances: Insomnia or frequent waking may occur.
  • Mood changes: Feelings of depression, anxiety, and irritability may arise.
  • Vaginal dryness: Reduced estrogen levels can cause vaginal dryness and discomfort.
  • Osteoporosis (bone loss): Decreased bone density increases the risk of fractures.

Health Management During Menopause

  • Balanced diet: Consuming calcium- and vitamin D-rich foods helps maintain bone health.
  • Exercise: Regular physical activity supports bone health and overall well-being.
  • Hormone Therapy: Can be used under medical supervision to alleviate symptoms.
  • Regular health check-ups: Bone density scans, gynecological exams, and heart health screenings are essential.
