Laparoscopy

What Is Laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to examine and treat organs in the abdominal and pelvic region. Compared to traditional open surgeries, it involves smaller incisions, leading to a faster recovery time and greater patient comfort.

When Is Laparoscopy Performed?

Gynecological Conditions:

  • Ovarian cysts
  • Fibroids
  • Endometriosis
  • Uterine and fallopian tube disorders
  • Ectopic pregnancy

Urogynecological Issues:

  • Urinary incontinence surgery
  • Pelvic organ prolapse repair

Other Conditions:

  • Removal of abdominal adhesions
  • Diagnostic examination

How Is Laparoscopy Performed?

During laparoscopic surgery, a small incision is made near the navel, and a camera (laparoscope) is inserted into the abdomen. Depending on the procedure, additional small incisions may be made to introduce surgical instruments. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia.

Advantages of Laparoscopy

  • Smaller incisions and better cosmetic results
  • Less pain and a faster recovery process
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Lower risk of infection
